Console Casting Setup
Follow each step below in order to configure LG casting on the SE4/Symbio console. Confirm every step once complete before moving to the next.
Order the IR Setup Remote
The initial setup requires a remote, because a video resolution screen needs an IR input to bypass it.
You will need to order the remote using the below SKU with a facility order.
Note: Orderable SKU: CASTING-IR-REMOTE
Connect the IR Sensor
Plug the IR sensor into the External IR IN 3.5mm jack on the casting box.
You can connect the IR sensor once the casting box is fully installed.
Enable Media Casting
Navigate to System Options → Configuration → Media Center → Media Casting.
Toggle the button to Enabled.
The default static IP address is set to 192.168.12.1. This does not need to be changed.
Select Setup
Select Setup to launch the Cast Setup screen.
Cast Setup Screen Launches
The Cast Setup screen will launch and show video from the LG STB-6500 box in the view window if it is powered ON.
If a black/blank video window is shown, make sure the casting box is powered ON.
This may require the Power button to be pressed on the remote after the IR sensor is connected. The boot process takes about 30–45 seconds.
Select the Video Resolution
LG's First Time Setup Wizard should launch automatically. The first screen in the setup is a video resolution selection.
Check first: There is no way to move past this menu until an IR press selects 1080p.
Confirm 1080p Resolution
Select 1080p on the IR remote by selecting the “OK” button.
Once 1080p is selected, the Setup Wizard will continue through varying screens that will either time out or automatically select.
Note: No user interaction is required for the remaining wizard screens.
Wizard Locates the Pro:Centric Server
The wizard will continue through a series of menus with timeouts until it locates the Pro:Centric Server.
Note: No user interaction is required. The Pro:Centric Server is located in the SE4/Symbio console — no external internet connection is needed for this step. Total timeouts: approximately 80 seconds.
Reboot the Casting Box
Once the Pro:Centric server is found and components are installed, select Reboot using the IR remote.
If you do not select Reboot, the system will power off after a short delay — simply use the IR remote to power the unit back on.
Server Loads After Reboot
After the reboot, the Pro:Centric server should load.
Confirm Wi-Fi Not Connected
When the casting box is ready, WiFi not connected will appear.
You may disconnect the IR sensor at this stage — it is no longer needed for setup or operation.
Proceed to the next setup phase.
Prepare the Firmware USB Drive
We need to make sure the casting box is up to date with the latest firmware.
Using a PC, extract the LF_LG_DTV zip file onto the root of a USB drive.
A folder named LF_LG_DTV will appear — this contains the necessary files to update the casting box.
Eject the USB drive.
Insert USB and Update Firmware
Insert the USB drive containing the unzipped firmware.
Select the Update Firmware icon.
Firmware Update in Progress
A series of notice screens will indicate the update process.
Note: Estimate approximately 5 minutes to complete.
Open the Info Page
Under HTML Pages, select Info from the pop-up box.
Review Reported Information
You should see all the information reported for the STB-6500, including software revisions, MAC addresses, and IP addresses.
Select Wi-Fi
Some information, such as software versions for Chromecast, will be missing — these require an internet connection to populate.
Select Wi-Fi.
Scan and Connect to a Network
Select the enable icon, then select Scan.
A list of available access points will populate.
Select the appropriate access point in the list and enter the password credentials.
Confirm the Connection
A check mark will appear next to the network you are connected to.
Verify Software Versions
Once connected, software versions for Chromecast, Chromecast Settings, Chromecast Guide, and Netflix should show under the Software Versions section of the Info menu.
Note: If the software versions for any of these four do not populate after a few minutes, select Restart App. This should show all four versions. If they are still missing, select Reboot STB.
Set the TV / Casting Device Name
To change the casting device's picker name, select Set TV Name.
Enter a Custom Device Name
Enter a custom casting device name, such as “Treadmill 1”, or select either TV Serial Number or Console Serial Number to pull those into the casting device name.
Select OK.
Note: The timeout is roughly 2 minutes to save the new name.
Launch the Google Cast Demo
Select Cast under the left drop-down.
Then select Launch Google Cast to demo casting in System Options.
Test the Cast Session
The cast view will launch within the view window and a test session can be conducted.
