Power workouts hold a power target rather than a resistance level, so the work stays consistent even as your cadence changes. There are four to choose from: Adaptive, Constant, High Intensity, and Endurance. This article explains what each one does and how to set your time, weight, and level.
Read the steps below.
Four workouts to choose from
| Workout | What it does |
| Constant | Power stays constant across cadences. Good for holding a steady intensity. |
| Adaptive | Power increases further at high cadences. Good for interval training. |
| High Intensity | Alternates hard efforts with recovery. |
| Endurance | Longer sustained efforts with shorter recoveries. |
Setting it up
- Press the Power key.
- Scroll to the workout you want with the workout arrows, then press ENTER.
- Enter your time — 1 to 60 minutes, default 30. Press ENTER.
- Enter your weight — 75 to 400 lbs, default 165. Press ENTER.
- Enter your level — 1 to 25, default 1. Press ENTER and start pedaling.
| Constant is the one to start with if you are not sure. It is the most predictable, and it makes watts a useful number to train against — the same effort reads the same every session. |
During your workout
Your level stays under your control the whole way — use the LEVEL arrows or type a number on the keypad. The TIME arrows extend or shorten the workout, and COOL DOWN switches into cool down mode.
Because these workouts hold a power target, easing your cadence makes the pedals feel heavier rather than making the workout easier.
| You can enter your weight partway through using the ENTER WEIGHT key. That improves the calorie estimate without making you start the workout again. |
Troubleshooting
- Pressing the workout key does nothing. The console may be asleep. Start pedaling to wake it and give it up to 30 seconds.
- The level feels far too easy or far too hard. Levels run from 1 to 25, which is a wide span. Change it as you go rather than restarting.
- The console will not accept a number. It is outside the allowed range. The display shows the range when you reach each entry step.
Safety Bring the pedal nearest you to its lowest position and hold the stationary handles before stepping on. Stop if you feel dizzy, short of breath, or unwell. |
