May 28, 2015: The terms 2:1 and 4:1 on Cybex Bravo and Jungle Gym Strength refer to the motion ratio between the input and the weight stack.
- On a 2:1 machine the weight stack moves ½ as far as the input
- On a 4:1 machine the weight stack moves ¼ as far as the input
From a training perspective, a 4:1 machine will allow for much higher training speeds than a 2:1 before the weight stack becomes ballistic. A 4:1 machine will also provide for smaller increments in the 8800 Series Bravo product as compared to the 2:1 version.
In order to provide the same resistance a weight stack twice as large is needed, thus the light and heavy stacks. In this case the light stack is primarily recommended for rehabilitation while the heavy is used for fitness and essentially duplicate the resistance of the 2:1 unit.

Note: A 4:1 can not be converted to a 2:1 and vice versa
See Bravo, Jungle Gym weight plate stickers for more details on how the weight stacks are labeled.
