Q: Can a new SYNRGY 4’ or 6’ bay be added to an existing S180 4’ bay?
A: Yes, existing S180 installs can be expanded with SYNRGY. Functional frames, cable frames and even Olympic frames are compatible. A typical expansion would follow the existing stabilization method. For example, if the installation currently uses bolt-to-floor then the expansion would also use bolt-to-floor. Likewise with a free stand system. In addition, there are some aesthetic differences to be aware of:
- New-style shelves will not visually align with the original shelves when mounted in the same vertical location. Original 4’ shelves would have to be special ordered if this aesthetic is critical (1012223-0001 Accessory Shelf, 1012222-0001 Dumbbell shelf). There are no “original” shelves available in 6’ length. In this case the only other option is to replace the original 4’ shelves with the new 4’ shelf, (1027345-0001)
- Shelves and side storage items are the same except for the mounting hardware. The original tapered spacer (1012186-0001) is plated steel, where the new spacer is black plastic. Both are functionally interchangeable. If the original aesthetic is desired, original spacers will have to be special ordered.
- If there are no existing wall ball targets, there will be no issue. However, if the install already has one be aware the wall ball target changed to extend further from the frame and is now a 2-piece design. Functionally they are the same but if the same look is desired either replace the old one with a new version or special order an old one (1011586-0001).
