Life Fitness Atmos Treadmill How to Use the Emergency Stop and Prevent Child Use

Your Atmos Home Treadmill has a magnetic emergency stop — a red safety key on a pull cord that clips to your clothing while you walk or run. Pull the cord and the belt stops immediately. Take the magnet with you afterwards and the treadmill will not start at all, which is the simplest way to stop children using it. This article covers clipping the cord on, stopping in an emergency, storing the magnet safely, and the weekly test.

Before every workout

1. Clip the cord to your clothing — waistband or shirt hem, with a little slack.
2. Check that the magnet is fully seated in its recess. It should sit flush and hold firmly.
3. Choose a workout, or press GO to begin.

If you need to stop immediately

Pull the cord. The magnet releases and the belt stops right away — this also happens on its own if you slip or move too far back, which is why clipping the cord on matters. The display reads PLEASE REATTACH EMERGENCY STOP and the console will not respond until you put the magnet back. Once you do, the treadmill resets and is ready to use.

Press STOP to pause your workout, and again to end it. Use the magnet when the belt needs to stop right now.

After every workout: preventing child use

The treadmill cannot start without the magnet in place, so where you keep it matters.

1. End your workout, then unclip the cord from your clothing.
2. Lift the magnet out of its recess and take it with you.
3. Store it out of a child’s reach — a closed drawer or high shelf, not on or beside the treadmill.

Test it once a week

Start the belt at a slow walking speed and pull the cord. The belt should stop immediately. If it does not, stop using the treadmill and contact Customer Support Services.

Troubleshooting

• Treadmill will not start, or the display keeps asking you to reattach the emergency stop. The magnet is not fully seated. Lift it out and place it back until it holds.
• The magnet is lost or the cord is damaged. Do not use the treadmill. Contact Customer Support Services for a replacement Emergency Stop Tether Assembly.
