Applies to: Atmos Home Treadmill — SL Console
A Heart Rate workout on your Atmos Home Treadmill with the SL console holds you at a target heart rate, adjusting the treadmill automatically to keep you there. You will need a Bluetooth heart rate chest strap or an Apple Watch. This article covers the Vigorous, Moderate, and Custom options, entering your age, time, weight, and starting speed, and what to do if no heart rate appears.
Read the steps below, or watch the short video.
Important This workout needs a heart rate device. Connect a chest strap over Bluetooth using the Bluetooth key on the console, or connect a wearable such as an Apple Watch, before you begin. Without a heart rate signal the treadmill has nothing to work from. |
Three intensities to choose from
| Option | What it targets |
| Vigorous | Holds your heart rate at 80% of your age-predicted maximum. |
| Moderate | Holds your heart rate at 65% of your age-predicted maximum. |
| Custom | You set the target heart rate yourself, in beats per minute. |
Setting it up
- Connect your heart rate strap or watch first.
- Press HEART RATE in the Workouts panel.
- Use the arrows to choose Vigorous, Moderate, or Custom, then press ENTER. The display shows the target percentage as you scroll.
- Enter your time and press ENTER.
- Enter your weight and press ENTER.
- Enter your age and press ENTER. Vigorous and Moderate work from your age to calculate your maximum heart rate, so this matters.
- Enter your starting speed — between 2.0 and 4.5 mph — and press ENTER.
- If you chose Custom, enter your target heart rate between 80 and 190 BPM, then press ENTER.
- Accept the warning about automatic changes during the program, then the console counts down and the belt starts.
During your workout
The treadmill adjusts itself to bring your heart rate to the target and hold it there. Give it a few minutes — your heart rate takes time to respond, so it will not lock on immediately.
To watch your heart rate as you go, use the small arrows beside the last metric position to switch it from Pace to Heart Rate.
Troubleshooting
- The console shows no heart rate. Check the strap is snug and making contact, and reconnect it with the Bluetooth key. A dry chest strap often will not read — moisten the contacts.
- My heart rate never reaches the target. Raise your starting speed. If the target itself is unrealistic for you, choose Moderate instead of Vigorous, or set a Custom target you know you can reach.
- The target looks too high or too low. Check the age you entered. Vigorous and Moderate calculate the target from it, so a mistyped age moves the target with it.
Safety If you feel dizzy, short of breath, or unwell, press STOP. Talk to your doctor before starting heart rate training if you have a heart condition, take medication that affects your heart rate, or have not exercised in a while. |
