Applies to: Atmos Cross-Trainer, Upright Bike, and Recumbent Bike — SL Console
This guided tour of the SL console covers the display and your workout metrics — RPM, level, watts, calories, distance, time, and heart rate — the six workout keys including Power, the LEVEL and TIME arrows, the numeric keypad, the GO, STOP, and COOL DOWN keys, and the connections for Bluetooth, Apple Watch, headphones, and USB.
Read the steps below.
The display
Your metrics run across the display: RPM, speed, calories, distance, time elapsed or remaining, level, watts, and heart rate. Watts is a direct measure of how much work you are doing, and is the most honest number on the console — it does not flatter you the way distance can.
Beside the metrics is a profile window. It draws the shape of whichever workout you have selected, and also shows volume changes.
Workouts
Six keys sit on the console. Press one, then use the arrows beside them to scroll through the workouts in that category.
| Workout | What it is for |
| Manual | Set a time goal and control your level yourself. |
| Power | Holds a power target rather than a level. Adaptive, Constant, High Intensity, and Endurance. |
| Heart Rate | Works to a target heart rate. Needs a heart rate strap or a watch connected. |
| Hill | Varied levels — Rolling Hill, Interval Hill, Kilimanjaro, Random Hill, Glute Camp, Strength Burst, and Total Leg. |
| Goal + | Work toward a distance or a calorie target. |
| Fit Test | A submaximal test that uses your heart rate to estimate your fitness. |
The controls
- LEVEL arrows — raise or lower resistance. This is your main control; there is no speed setting, because how fast you go is up to you.
- TIME arrows — extend or shorten your workout, or your cool down.
- Numeric keypad — type a value instead of holding an arrow, then press ENTER. The ENTER WEIGHT key lets you enter your weight at any time, even partway through a workout, for a better calorie estimate.
- Toggle arrows — switch between the paired metrics on the display.
Starting, stopping, and cooling down
| Key | What it does |
| GO | Starts a Quick Start workout with no setup. Also resumes a paused workout. |
| STOP | Press once during a workout to pause. Press again while paused to end it. |
| COOL DOWN | Switches the workout into cool down mode. |
| Bluetooth | Pairs Bluetooth audio devices and wireless heart rate straps. |
Connections and everything else
| Feature | What it is for |
| Mobile Device Pairing | Pairs your phone over Bluetooth proximity or NFC, for signing in and tracking workouts to the Life Fitness Connect app. |
| Apple Watch | Connects an Apple Watch for workout tracking and live data sharing over Apple GymKit. |
| Reading rack | Holds a book, a phone, or a tablet. |
| USB port | Charges a device, and is used for software updates. |
| Audio jack | A 3.5 mm socket for wired headphones. |
| Media controls | Integrated TV controls — power, channel, volume, and closed captions. Whether they reach your own television depends on the set. |
Important There is no emergency stop on a cross-trainer or bike, and no free-wheeling feature — the pedals cannot be stopped instantly. Slow down under control rather than trying to stop dead, and always mount and dismount with the near pedal at its lowest position. |
Where to go next
- Setting up each workout — Manual, Power, Heart Rate, Hill, and Goal +.
- Manager’s Configuration, for units, language, and Wi-Fi.
- Keeping your self-powered console charged, and ErP Mode.
Safety Use caution mounting and dismounting. Bring the pedal nearest you to its lowest position, hold the stationary handles, and step on carefully. Never face backward while using a cross-trainer. |
