Applies to: Atmos Home Cross-Trainer, Upright Bike, and Recumbent Bike — SL Console
Your SL console is self-powered. It runs on a rechargeable battery that you charge by pedaling, so there is nothing to plug in and no batteries to replace. This article explains how the charging works, how to check the console has power, what to do if the display stays dark, and when an external power supply is worth having.
Read the steps below.
Important This is the biggest difference between your equipment and a treadmill. A treadmill is always plugged in. Your cross-trainer or bike generates its own power as you pedal, so a dark console is often just a flat battery rather than a fault. |
How the charging works
The console is powered by a rechargeable battery, and pedaling keeps it charged. Normal use is enough — you do not need to do anything special. For a good charge, aim for ten to twenty minutes of pedaling at 50 rpm or faster during your workout. Your RPM shows on the display.
Checking the console has power
- Press GO. The console should beep, light up, and show the Life Fitness logo.
- If nothing appears, get on and start pedaling. The console should light up within a few seconds, and you will be able to set a workout up as normal.
If the console has been unused for a while
A battery that has sat for weeks may be flat. Pedaling will bring it back — start with an easy ten to twenty minutes at a steady 50 rpm or more, and the display will come up as the charge builds. If it does not respond at all after a few minutes of pedaling, contact Customer Support Services.
Using an external power supply instead
An optional power supply is available from Life Fitness. With it plugged in, charging is automatic and you no longer need to keep your cadence up to hold power — useful if you pedal slowly, use your equipment for rehabilitation, or simply want the console on the moment you touch it.
On the cross-trainer this is the Power Assist option. It needs a kit — contact Customer Support Services to order one.
Important Use only the power supply provided by Life Fitness. Connectors should fit easily; forcing one can damage the socket and may void your warranty. If the plug does not fit easily, it is the wrong supply. |
Troubleshooting
- The console dims or drops out while I am pedaling slowly. Cadence is what generates the power. Raise your RPM, or fit the optional external supply if pedaling slowly is the point.
- It will not come on at all. Pedal for several minutes first. If there is still nothing, contact Customer Support Services.
- I have the power supply plugged in but it is not charging. Check the power brick cord is fully seated in the base. A loose connection stops the unit receiving external power.
- Do I need to replace the battery? No. It is rechargeable and maintained by pedaling. It is only removed at the end of the product’s life, for recycling.
Safety Never use the equipment with a damaged power cord or plug. Use only the Life Fitness supply, and unplug before cleaning or moving the unit. |
